you just might learn something

April 1, 2014 Kaly Sullivan Leave a Comment

I took some time over the last few days to reflect on my one year anniversary of blogging as more than just a day or a milestone or an excuse to buy flowers (which I did). And by taking that time to dig a little deeper, I was reminded of a few things, lessons, that I have learned along the way. Maybe they apply to something that's on your mind, a challenge you're trying to work through or a puzzle you're trying to figure out. Lesson #1 - I don't want to be a blogger. When I first … [Read more...] about you just might learn something

one year blogging

March 27, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 7 Comments

One year ago today I published my first blog post. I didn't have a plan other than to write about my experiences. I've tried to figure it out as I go along. I didn't know what I was doing, but I had to start somewhere. And that's what I want to say today. Don't wait. That thing you've been wanting to do or try. Stop mulling. Stop researching. Stop strategizing. Get on with it. If I've learned anything in writing 110 posts in the last year, it's that if you wait for it to be perfect, it … [Read more...] about one year blogging

on purpose

March 25, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 3 Comments

I've been staring at the screen for awhile now. Looking over a running list of things that I want to write about here on my blog. Some days, I know exactly what I want to write and my ideas and opinions can't get from my head on to the screen fast enough. It doesn't help that I am a remedial typer at best. But today is not one of those days. Today is the day where I stare and stare and eventually give myself an ultimatum. Pick something and get started or....or what? It's hard to be your own … [Read more...] about on purpose

daily mantras for keeping my sanity

March 20, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 2 Comments

I woke up this morning feeling blah and fuzzy and off my game. Most days I exercise in the morning and then write and work on projects while the kids are at school, but today I decided that after the bus stop I would be back in bed watching The Bling Ring. I needed a morning of being alone in Sophia Coppola's brain world (that's our resident term for imagination and vision). I needed a morning of sweatpants and cozy covers. Well, maybe need is a strong word but it felt like the right thing to … [Read more...] about daily mantras for keeping my sanity

do you work outside the home?

March 18, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 12 Comments

Do you work outside the home? This seems to be the latest politically correct way to ask another woman, especially a mother, about her life. I hear it on the playground and at school functions and at parties and events. As someone who recently relocated and is still meeting new people and acclimating to a new area, I've spent the last year trying to connect with other women about their lives and fumbling through explaining my own situation on a pretty regular basis. When this … [Read more...] about do you work outside the home?

i want it now

March 12, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 6 Comments

I'm impatient. I pay attention to what I eat for two days, step on the scale and expect to see movement. I post to this blog and within hours go check how many people are reading it. I enter a contest for the first time, and I want to win. I want results. Immediate results. I want to stomp my foot like Veruca Salt and wail, I want it now. Give it to me now. I want to jump to the front of the line. I want to bound like the hare. I want to feel like I've arrived. You … [Read more...] about i want it now

spring clean out

March 11, 2014 Kaly Sullivan Leave a Comment

Everyone is talking about spring.  Spring is not my favorite season. I think spring, I think mud. I think baseball practice bundled in tired winter coats. Wanting warmth so badly that I break out the sandals prematurely and end up with freezing toes. Spring is being so close to being warm, but still being cold. I'd rather just be cold. What I do love about spring is the sense of renewal. A thaw out calls for a good inventory and purge whether it's saying goodbye to clutter around your home … [Read more...] about spring clean out

on my nightstand

March 7, 2014 Kaly Sullivan Leave a Comment

Reading is my favorite pastime and my nightstand is always stacked high with books that I'm making my way through.  I thought I'd share what's camped out there these days. And because I've always wondered who has the job of writing the descriptions of movies and television shows that pop up through your cable, I challenged myself to write a synopsis/review in less than 140 characters, Twitter style, and this is what I came up with. Gutbliss, Dr. Robynne Chutkan M.D. - Ignore goofy title. … [Read more...] about on my nightstand
