i want it now

March 12, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 6 Comments

veronicasaltI’m impatient.

I pay attention to what I eat for two days, step on the scale and expect to see movement.

I post to this blog and within hours go check how many people are reading it.

I enter a contest for the first time, and I want to win.

I want results. Immediate results.

I want to stomp my foot like Veruca Salt and wail,

I want it now.

Give it to me now.

I want to jump to the front of the line. I want to bound like the hare. I want to feel like I’ve arrived.

You know where this is going right?

Here’s the kicker. I’m never going to get there. I’m never going to get what I want.

Because by the time I get there, there will only be further to go. And I’ll want to go there.

By the time I get what I want, I’ll want something else.

I can stomp my feet, work harder, be more diligent and even resort to crooning like Morrissey, please, please, please let me get what I want this time.

When my impatience takes over and I’m itching for things to resolve, when I’m speed reading toward the end of a novel, and always looking ahead instead of noticing where I am and how far I’ve come, I need to remember.

Remember that it’s good to be ambitious. It’s okay to want more. But it’s one foot in front of another that will get me there. Faith and a little focus is what I need to get where I want to go.

If you’re starting something new in your life or if you’ve been at it for awhile, I’m sure you know this feeling well.

It sometimes feels impossible to be where you are.

I want today. I want tomorrow.

We’ll get them. Eventually.

Love the mental image this post provides of you, me, the world … when things are just not moving fast enough and we all need to slow down and have a little faith it will happen but Geeez sometimes just not fast enough!

So hard to remember that fast isn’t always better in a world that’s speeding by! Glad you liked the post.

Patrick bought me a little lucky owl from the shop in Japan at Epcot a few weeks ago. The owl’s color signifies what area of life where it will bring you luck/fortune—- my color was silver for PATIENCE….go figure. I need as much help as I can get in that area.

I’d like one of those little owls in every color. Patience is very hard. Very hard to remember that change comes in teeny tiny increments more often than huge leaps.
