one year blogging

one

One year ago today I published my first blog post.

I didn’t have a plan other than to write about my experiences. I’ve tried to figure it out as I go along. I didn’t know what I was doing, but I had to start somewhere.

And that’s what I want to say today.

Don’t wait. That thing you’ve been wanting to do or try. Stop mulling. Stop researching. Stop strategizing. Get on with it. If I’ve learned anything in writing 110 posts in the last year, it’s that if you wait for it to be perfect, it will never get done.

My hope for this blog in the next year is that…

as I find my way, maybe it will help you find yours.

as I share my story, maybe it will help you share yours.

And beyond all the good feelings, I will be trying some new things here that I will fill you in on over the next few weeks.

Today I went back and read every last word that I’ve published here. And I’m feeling so proud.

It’s incredibly cool and humbling that over 1500 people have stopped by to see what I have to say. Thank you for coming along with me on this adventure. I hope that you’ll stick around for another year.

But probably the biggest news of all – after moving to a new city last year, I realized that there is a lack of good content and support for families that are going through a relocation. Motivated by my new found voice and commitment to writing, I’ve been slowly plugging away at a book about relocating with your family that deals not only with the logistics of moving but also the emotional transition of moving to a new home. I am about halfway through the first draft. To my friends and readers that have moved with their families, I’ll be reaching out to you over the next few months to ask for your insights.

The thing I love about this project is that it crosses over three of my very favorite things to write about – life milestones, emotional transitions, and personal experience. And of course I want to protect other families from the moving fraud that we experienced.

So that’s one of my projects that I’ve been alluding to over the past few months. More on the others to come…

Do you have anything that you’ve wanted to start but have been putting off? If you started today, where would you be in a year?

Hooray, hooray! So happy you took that step a year ago. Not only do I love reading your blog, but you did so much do get me to stop mulling, researching, and procrastinating (which I’d been doing for at least two years) and start working on my own blog. Thanks, Kaly, for being an inspiration. I’ll be eagerly awaiting whatever you have in store for us during year two.
