When did the holidays turn into a time to survive? My inbox and feeds are being bombarded with strategies for surviving this time of year. That leads me to believe that we are doing something incredibly wrong. Our guts are screaming, It's too much! but our brains are on overdrive trying to cram as much in as possible. Cram. It. In. There. Must. Be. More. Room. In our stomachs, in our spending, under our tree, in our schedules. I caught myself doing it this week. Making lists, planning … [Read more...] about A Holiday Pep Talk

How To Get Ready For Your Beach Vacation: A Helpful Timeline
We are getting ready to go on a little vacation. I'm remembering now that you're not supposed to put on the internet when you're leaving your house unoccupied. For safety reasons. Let me rephrase...at some point this summer, we will go on vacation. And so all the potential home invaders are aware, everything is in boxes because we're moving so you really have your work cut out for you. I've been reminded that personal preparation for a beach vacay is no easy task. Here's a timeline … [Read more...] about How To Get Ready For Your Beach Vacation: A Helpful Timeline
Where to Find Me v.2
I was going to post something new, but I wanted to make sure you had a chance to see two of my latest guest posts: Milestones That Matter on Mamalode: Their theme this month is Celebrate so I chose to write about all of the little things that we never formally acknowledge but that really make a difference in our day-to-day lives as parents. It's a reminder that all of the effort and energy we put into our kids eventually pays off. Six Parenting Jobs I Dream About Outsourcing on Scary … [Read more...] about Where to Find Me v.2
taking a look
Last week while I was jokingly poking fun at resolutions, I was actually deep in my annual reflect on last year until I can't see straight mode. I might not be on the resolution bandwagon, but I do love to take a long, lingering look back. I've always been a sucker for a good annual countdown. I love spending the final days of December watching the best music videos of the year on VH1. Okay, that was like fifteen years ago, but you get the point. I like to take a look back before I look … [Read more...] about taking a look

There's a place in the universe where nerds and humor intersect and it's called McSweeney's Internet Tendency. As a writer dabbling in humor, it's the Big Kahuna, the elusive yes that you reach for but never expect to receive. It's like a blessing from the funny gods - if McSweeney's thinks it's funny, it must be really freakin' funny. Some of the stuff is so funny, I don't even get it. Let's just say that they have a reputation for being a tad highbrow. And they're known for their … [Read more...] about that’s me
all is calm, all is bright
I don't know what's going on this year, but it's strangely peaceful in these parts. I'm just hanging out wrapping some presents watching House of DVF wondering why I did all of my holiday baking gluten free, because now I can and will eat it. I feel like this year we've hit our Christmas groove. We know what traditions are important to us. We've given ourselves plenty of time to enjoy the things that makes the holidays special for our family. I don't feel pulled in a million different … [Read more...] about all is calm, all is bright
milestones
Today I accomplished a few things that I never dreamed possible: 1. It's December 9th, and I am done with my Christmas shopping. I wanted to do things differently this year, because I'm usually running around at the last minute, waiting for things to go on sale, searching for the perfect idea, wrapping into the early hours of Christmas morning. Not this year. I'm trying an entirely different approach called, tis the season to enjoy the season not run around and buy things that we don't need. … [Read more...] about milestones
scary mommy
I like Mondays. Don't roll your eyes at me. Sure the weekends are great, doing what everyone else wants to do, more dishes, more togetherness. But on Monday, it's back to my little routine. And I like it. Today is a good Monday, because I have a post up on Scary Mommy: 15 Lies I've Told About My Parenting. If you're not familiar with Scary Mommy, it is a humor site. So everything is to be taken with a giant grain of salt. As in, this post is a joke. Scary Mommy is not only a … [Read more...] about scary mommy
