Recently I've been putting myself out there more, pushing the edges of my comfort zone. And I want to come clean in case there was any doubt or I've led you to believe otherwise: I am terrified. I've always been terrified. I took an online class two years ago with life coach, Tiffany Han. The class was designed to help you define your values, vision and purpose. Before I took this class, I had lost my voice. It was bad. Like really bad. If there was an award for Most … [Read more...] about me too

forget gratitude – laugh your face off
This year I am spending Thanksgiving at my mom's house with her two sisters and my cousins and their kids. We haven't all been together in a very long time. We'll eat pole beans because my grandmother would have insisted, we'll go bowling on Friday to get out of the house, but most importantly my boys will get a chance to spend time with their uncles, great aunts and cousins. We'll be in Florida but it won't be particularly warm. My kids will still insist on wearing shorts. Gratitude is … [Read more...] about forget gratitude – laugh your face off
all we have to give
I am very honored to have another piece up on Mamalode today. Their theme this month is Men and from the minute it was announced, I knew what I would write. I didn't expect that they would feature me again. I was convinced that last month when they published my piece it was a fluke. But I wrote the piece anyway, because I needed to. And after it was submitted, I though more than once about pulling it. Today, now that it is up and out in the world, I am feeling a little bit raw. A … [Read more...] about all we have to give
he’s so tall.
He's so tall. A pretty innocent statement. But holy moly, after a while I just can't take it anymore! Excited to have my first post on BLUNTmoms today. This is a site where moms can really go there. And so I did. … [Read more...] about he’s so tall.
the slippery slope of a broken routine
It's a slippery slope. Taking a break from a routine. Just one more piece of Halloween candy... I'll get back to yoga tomorrow... One more night of take-out... The wine is already open, might as well have a glass... I think I'm giving myself a break, a treat, a little grace period. But that break, that treat – it's making me feel like crap. This is a hard time of year. The colder weather leaves us hunched and drained. The shorter days make us crawl towards bed at an … [Read more...] about the slippery slope of a broken routine
the world won’t end if you’re not perfect
You've heard the saying Nobody's perfect? Until fairly recently, my reply would have been... It's because they're not trying hard enough. It was only after Brené Brown called me out on my addiction to perfectionism that I started to loosen my grip on my attempts to be perfect. I started to make an effort to be more real about my experiences, because real is vulnerable and relatable, and perfect, well perfect is just plain annoying. And boring. It was during my ongoing battle to slay … [Read more...] about the world won’t end if you’re not perfect
did you ask for what you want?
When someone, especially my children, make a statement like – I'm hungry. I'm tired. I'm bored. It drives me bonkers. Don't make declarations, I tell them. Ask for what you want. It is with this in mind that I've signed up for a year long program where the goal is to get 100 rejection letters. Because if you're not getting rejected, you're certainly not asking for what you want. I started this blog a year and a half ago, because there was a little whisper inside me that said: … [Read more...] about did you ask for what you want?
pinterest is not the problem
I read a blog post this week encouraging parents, mothers specifically, to stop being so competitive and succumbing to the pressure to be perfect, and to embrace good enough. And while I totally agree that parents need to lay off the judgement of other families and their choices and stop being so hard on ourselves, I feel like I need to come to the defense of mothers who are being slammed for trying to be perfect, over-achieving, and generally make life difficult for every other … [Read more...] about pinterest is not the problem
