It's the perfect summer night. I'm sitting in the grass outside the hotel. The problem is that the hotel is in Worcester. Yes, we are still in Worcester. Our moving company has dropped the ball. They were supposed to pick up our stuff yesterday morning. But we're still waiting. First the truck broke down that was supposed to move us. And then because they couldn't fix it, they offloaded our job to a different company. We're not their problem anymore. I just got off the phone with the … [Read more...] about ready. set. wait.
it’s here, it’s finally here
Summer. The move. It's all happening. I think it’s time to put the blog on a very short pause while we make this move happen. I thought that I would be able to keep it going but it seems that I am having a hard time stringing any coherent thoughts together. The movers come on Friday and while I don’t feel stressed on a minute-to-minute basis my sleep hasn’t been good and my stomach is starting to revolt so something is going on. Maybe it’s just too hot to be stressed. Nothing like some … [Read more...] about it’s here, it’s finally here
time to switch to paper
It’s the dishes. It’s the dishes that are going to put me over the edge. I can handle, I’ve been handling, everything else. I can take out the garbage. Even get it to the curb in time for pick-up. I can sort the recycling and make sure it gets out too. I can play endless rounds of catch, sit through baseball practices and games, shoot hoops after dinner and throw the tennis ball at the garage until my brain starts to leak out of my ears. I can referee battles about who is more annoying … [Read more...] about time to switch to paper
three things distracting me
Or I guess I could call them addictions if I want to be brutally honest with myself. I am not endorsing any of these highly obsessive behaviors. And don’t blame me if you lose your job or don’t have any clean clothes or there’s no food in your fridge to feed your kids. NMP – not my problem. I’ve got enough problems of my own (Level 45! See below.). And don’t say you haven’t been warned…. 1) Candy Crush I have no idea how this happened. I do not play games on my phone or iPad. I’ve … [Read more...] about three things distracting me
a way with words
Me: Hi, yes, my name is Kaly Sullivan, and I need to have a technician come maintenance our furnace. Operator: Sure Mrs. Sullivan. How does next Thursday at 11:00 work for you? Me: Perfect. Do you have my phone number? I'm just not sure what number you have on file. Operator: We have 978-460-2803 on file. Me: That's my husband's old number, and he's not here anymore. Operator: Oh. (Pause.) I'm so sorry. Me: No, no. He's just in Philadelphia. … [Read more...] about a way with words
out with the old, in with the new
In four weeks, I’ll be living in Philadelphia. Everything will be settled. Everything will be unsettled. Am I ready? Yes. No. Maybe. I’m ready to have my family back under one roof. I’m ready to be out of this holding pattern. I’m ready to get on with it. To arrange furniture and unpack my art supplies and organize drawers and find a place for everything. I’m ready to see Kevin off in the morning and know that he’ll be back in less than 12 hours. I’m ready for bare white walls. I’m … [Read more...] about out with the old, in with the new
three things i’m packing
I'm headed back to Philadelphia today for one last visit before we move and banging out this post in record speed before I get on the road. I had such a great time on my last trip, I'm worried that the bar has been set a little too high. I'm driving down instead of taking the train so I am relying on Podcasts instead of magazines. I've got all my faves - Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me, This American Life, The Moth, and TED Talks all lined up and ready to go. Yesterday I hit the T&T's in … [Read more...] about three things i’m packing
i’m still here
So yeah, I took a break from my blog, and I am having a hard time getting back to business. It wasn’t intentional. I had my three things all lined up for a post on Friday, but when I sat down with my morning coffee to write nothing was flowing. Before I got any decent writing done, it was time to head out for Memorial Day. And it was either get an early start and beat the traffic or hang around and plod through a blog post that I wasn’t that into. So, we got on the road. And all weekend I … [Read more...] about i’m still here
