time to switch to paper

June 18, 2013 Kaly Sullivan 4 Comments

It’s the dishes.  It’s the dishes that are going to put me over the edge.  I can handle, I’ve been handling, everything else.  I can take out the garbage.  Even get it to the curb in time for pick-up.  I can sort the recycling and make sure it gets out too.  I can play endless rounds of catch, sit through baseball practices and games, shoot hoops after dinner and throw the tennis ball at the garage until my brain starts to leak out of my ears.  I can referee battles about who is more annoying and who is a bigger idiot.  I can sing Southern Cross at bedtime and get up with Colin in the middle of the night because he’s scared of the dark and needs an escort to the bathroom.  I can clean out the tub drain and only gag once.  I can deal with realtors and lawyers and utilities and leases and address changes.

But what I can’t handle is another damn dish.

I am so so sorry Mother Earth.  But I need to switch to paper plates.  I promise that I will never again take the closer for granted – the guy who comes in at the end of the day and wraps it up.  And does the dinner dishes.  You’re a mother – you understand right?

Enjoy this clip from Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.  Love, love, love Christina Applegate in all iterations. Dishes are done man.

I am strongly considering this attitude. SL and I won’t have a dishwasher in our new place and there’s only one sink…

Can I buy you his and hers aprons that say “wash” and “dry”?

Dishes (that aren’t my own, I can deal with my own messes) are the bane of my existence… Two things make them a little more bearable…

-A speaker system in the kitchen of some sort. In this case I have AirPlay set up from my phone to some Bose speakers I got on clearance at Best Buy. James Brown live on Soul Train is good for tedious things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsVyPAVBzRQ
-A spray bottle with a vinegar/baking soda/water concoction in the kitchen with a microfiber cloth. Part of my hate for dishes goes with hate for the rest of the kitchen, so 15 minutes a night does more for my sanity than 4 hours on a weekend.

Totally agree. Music is a must and never go to bed with dishes in the sink and a messy counter. Life is better when you start your day in a clean kitchen. And they never take as long as you think they will so just get it over with.
