My oldest child turned eight today. I've been a mom for eight years, the longest I've held down any job. I have a few friends starting their families soon and many of my friends started a little later than us and are still dealing with diapers and lack of sleep and willful toddlers. So this post is for you. This is what I know. My performance review would definitely have some developmental opportunities. I burst into uncontrollable giggling when my son asked where babies came from. There have … [Read more...] about advice for new parents
gremlins, aka those voices in your head
This week in honor of Halloween, I'm tackling some scary subjects. First up, gremlins. Later this week, I'll dive into parenting and then fear. If you're of a certain age, gremlins are those little fuzzy guys that you want to keep away from bright lights, water and late night snacks. But more recently, gremlins is a term that's become popular for those little voices in your head feeding your fears and telling you that you are not enough. Sometimes they're called saboteurs or inner critics or … [Read more...] about gremlins, aka those voices in your head
three things you can do for me
It occurred to me after I whipped off this mission post last week that maybe I needed to explain myself a little bit more. And back up a little bit. To the beginning. I started this blog because I was feeling disconnected from myself and my life. I wanted to be more engaged. I wanted to rediscover my voice. I wanted to share my experiences hoping that you would connect to them too. I wanted to get comfortable writing and sharing and putting myself out there. I wanted to know that I’m not the … [Read more...] about three things you can do for me

This week I'm sharing a couple of my favorite things... So, How Was Your Day? This is my favorite web site right now. I'm a sucker for the-day-in-the-life set up, and I love reading about interesting people doing interesting things. After reading Max Wastler's profile, I found myself in line at the store holding a bottle of Basil & Hayden's. But that's another story. If you're inspired by the breadth of options life has to offer from where you live to what you eat to how you make a … [Read more...] about what kaly found v.4
mission
Since I started blogging, I've struggled with the question, "What is your blog about?" For awhile I was saying, "You know, life. And stuff." So eloquent. That was usually met with blank stares. Then for awhile I was talking about tuning in and being connected to ourselves and to our lives. That was pretty good, but tune in reminded me too much of Lean In. And I'm not going there. Then it was easier for me to say what my blog was not - it's not a mommy blog even though I am a mom … [Read more...] about mission
three things that raise my blood pressure
I'm a pretty laid back person. Let me start again. I work really hard at being a laid back person. I'm not much of a worrier. I don't sweat the small stuff. I have some tried and true coping skills for the big stuff. There really isn't much on a daily basis that gets to me except for these three things that never fail to raise my blood pressure. 1) 3:55 - 4:15, Monday through Friday. The twenty minutes after we walk in the door after school is definitely the most overwhelming part of my day. … [Read more...] about three things that raise my blood pressure

This week is for the ladies. My first two finds come via Upworthy. If you don't know this site, their tag line is "Things that matter" and if you subscribe, they will send you three videos a day of cool stuff. I just subscribed this week and so far, I'm totally loving it. This first video really got under my skin in the best way. If you have a daughter, it's a must watch. It's a beautifully written and performed piece about women and self-worth and how it cycles from generation to … [Read more...] about what kaly found v.3
the new social
I am completely fascinated and maybe a little obsessed with social media. But it’s not the actual media outlets themselves, although I do spend time on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and FlipBoard daily. Yes, it's a lot. But since I have a blog, I am trying to get my voice out there too. My fascination is less with the content and more with the behaviors around social media and how it impacts our connections. How is social media really playing itself out in our lives? Why do … [Read more...] about the new social
