When you go from being a homeowner for nine years to being a tenant in a rental, some interesting stuff starts to bubble up. Here are three things we're discovering about renting: 1) You adopt the N.O.P. (Not Our Problem) mentality. Don't get me wrong - we're good tenants. But big things like the aging roof or the drafty windows, just aren't in our realm of responsibility. We redid just about everything in our last house. We're used to getting stuff done. There's a beautiful, but dying, tree … [Read more...] about three things about renting

what kaly found v.2
What caught my eye this week? Good graphics, comfort zones, fresh pizza and free shiny stuff. 9 out of 10 Americans Are Completely Wrong About This Mind Blowing Fact - I learned about this short informational video over on Seth Godin's blog. If you're not familiar with Seth, he's a marketing guru. And sure, this video is a teensy bit political, but our government is shut down after all so it's kind of on my mind. And as Seth points out, even if you don't agree with the sentiments, you have to … [Read more...] about what kaly found v.2
this is uncomfortable
Sunday night on the OWN network, two back-to-back episodes of Lifeclass with Brené Brown aired. Did you see them? I've read all of Brene's books (you can see my first post on Brené here) and am a self-declared groupie and whole-hearted follower so I tuned in. I'm not the biggest Oprah fan. I respect her, but I don't love her. But I LOVE Brené. You simply can not watch her speak, hear her words and not be drawn to her. I was not a big fan of the social media heavy format of the show. Having … [Read more...] about this is uncomfortable
confession: i don’t like food trucks
I'm coming clean. I know that I'm supposed to think food trucks are cool. But how many times have I had this conversation? Food Truck Enthusiast: And there will be food trucks! Me: Oh.....great. I don't like them. And in my defense, I'm not totally out of it. I watch GIRLS. I'm on Instagram. I know who Jenna Lyons is. Go ahead, strip me of my cool credentials but sign me up for the food truck backlash. I just don't like them. I don't like to eat with my hands or standing up or … [Read more...] about confession: i don’t like food trucks
introducing: what kaly found
I remember the first time that I tried to surf the internet. I was in a computer lab at Mount Holyoke College in the basement of the foreign language building. I'm not sure why I was down there because it was my first year (at an all women's college you don't use the term freshman year) and I dropped Spanish after the first class. But there I was in the basement of the foreign language building even though I wasn't taking a foreign language, and I decided to check out the world wide web. The … [Read more...] about introducing: what kaly found
three things new to the blog
UPDATE: If you're a reading this on your phone, you're probably wondering what the heck I'm talking about. If you are on an iPad, if you turn it horizontally, you can see the side navigation. Sorry for the technical glitches, still working on my mobile responsiveness! You can also subscribe to receive an email when I post something new here. I've given the old blog a little bit of a facelift. She's six months old after all. 1) I'm happy to stalk your inbox. If you want to get my … [Read more...] about three things new to the blog
six months
Today is the six month anniversary of my blog. So I coined a new word in its honor --- blog-a-versary. Well, I thought I coined it until I Googled it and it turns out every other blogger is already using it. Sometimes it feels like there are no good ideas left... So yes, Happy Blog-a-versary to Me! Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading and encouraging me to keep going. My goal for this first six months was simply to write, and I have had such a great time sharing in this new-to-me … [Read more...] about six months
snap out of it
The entire contents of my closet is on the floor. I love the fall. It's my favorite season, but this wardrobe transition is sucking. The things I loved last year have no appeal to me now. When I close my eyes and picture what I want to wear, I see nothing. It’s blank. I’ve lost my style. Poof. It’s gone. I don’t know what I like. What I want. What I would buy if I had the money and time to really go shopping. And I'm the kind of girl that for better or worse, it matters to me. Personal style … [Read more...] about snap out of it
