one second dear, mommy’s busy judging your father’s parenting style #10yearsaparent

November 14, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 8 Comments

Okay, moms. Let's talk about dads. It doesn't really matter how your family is set up. If you're home with your kid/s during the day while your husband is at work or if you just end up taking the lead on a lot of parenting decisions. Or maybe there's a 50/50 split. However your family is set up, this will happen to you. You will spend hours, days, possibly weeks building system, a routine, holding the line, getting everything just right. And before you can say... No more binky in … [Read more...] about one second dear, mommy’s busy judging your father’s parenting style #10yearsaparent

he’s so tall.

He's so tall. A pretty innocent statement. But holy moly, after a while I just can't take it anymore! Excited to have my first post on BLUNTmoms today. This is a site where moms can really go there. And so I did. … [Read more...] about he’s so tall.

you don’t have to listen to crappy kids’ music #10yearsaparent

November 7, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 2 Comments

It took me a few years of Laurie Berkner on repeat being pushed to the very edge of insanity to come to the realization that just because you have kids doesn't mean that you have to listen to crappy kids' music. It's a slippery slope – you want to do something nice for your child, give them the best environment that you can so that they grow and learn and blossom. And you think, Music! Music is what we need! And music made specifically for kids is not torturous at first, if you listen to … [Read more...] about you don’t have to listen to crappy kids’ music #10yearsaparent

i like to be prepared so i bought a costume for 2024

October 29, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 4 Comments

My oldest son wants to be a Phillies player for Halloween, but he doesn't want to have any old uniform. He wants the gray uniform that the team wears at away games. And he would prefer a player's jersey with a name and number. The kid's birthday is actually on Halloween, so I figure if I can make this happen I can count it as his birthday gift as well as his costume. Efficient and cost-effective. Another brilliant move by Mom. But finding the desired jersey was a little more challenging … [Read more...] about i like to be prepared so i bought a costume for 2024

pinterest is not the problem

October 17, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 2 Comments

I read a blog post this week encouraging parents, mothers specifically, to stop being so competitive and succumbing to the pressure to be perfect, and to embrace good enough. And while I totally agree that parents need to lay off the judgement of other families and their choices and stop being so hard on ourselves, I feel like I need to come to the defense of mothers who are being slammed for trying to be perfect, over-achieving, and generally make life difficult for every other … [Read more...] about pinterest is not the problem

the coach’s wife

September 23, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 6 Comments

I'm not sure how I got here. My husband sends a casual email offering to help out, and before I can say "Touchdown!" I am the wife of a flag football coach. I have a lot to learn about being a coach's wife. At children's sporting events, I usually park myself away from the crowd and stare in the direction of the field not really paying attention. My sunglasses are my best friend hiding my lack of engagement. No amount of Friday Night Lights, could have prepared me for the role of coach's wife. … [Read more...] about the coach’s wife

i wish my family was…

September 11, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 2 Comments

I wish my family was... Rich. That's how my eight year-old son filled in the blank prompted by his day-by-day journal. I hadn't been intentionally spying. I was straightening his room and just picked up his journal and opened it to a random entry to see if he was still journaling daily. I wish my family was rich. I felt like I had been punched in the gut. How had I failed to instill our values, a sense of perspective and an understanding of what is important? Because the truth … [Read more...] about i wish my family was…

summer scrapbook

September 5, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 2 Comments

People keep asking, How was your summer? And I keep replying, Great. It was. I genuinely feel great about it. I wanted to have a balance of busy and not busy. Activities and free time. On the road and home. And I think we did exactly that. But what did we do exactly? Already, the days are getting blurry. This post is really for me. To remind myself of all of the fun things we did and the adventures we had. I want this one last moment of summer before I turn myself over to fall. I'm … [Read more...] about summer scrapbook
