Since I started blogging, I've struggled with the question, "What is your blog about?" For awhile I was saying, "You know, life. And stuff." So eloquent. That was usually met with blank stares. Then for awhile I was talking about tuning in and being connected to ourselves and to our lives. That was pretty good, but tune in reminded me too much of Lean In. And I'm not going there. Then it was easier for me to say what my blog was not - it's not a mommy blog even though I am a mom … [Read more...] about mission

the new social
I am completely fascinated and maybe a little obsessed with social media. But it’s not the actual media outlets themselves, although I do spend time on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and FlipBoard daily. Yes, it's a lot. But since I have a blog, I am trying to get my voice out there too. My fascination is less with the content and more with the behaviors around social media and how it impacts our connections. How is social media really playing itself out in our lives? Why do … [Read more...] about the new social
this is uncomfortable
Sunday night on the OWN network, two back-to-back episodes of Lifeclass with Brené Brown aired. Did you see them? I've read all of Brene's books (you can see my first post on Brené here) and am a self-declared groupie and whole-hearted follower so I tuned in. I'm not the biggest Oprah fan. I respect her, but I don't love her. But I LOVE Brené. You simply can not watch her speak, hear her words and not be drawn to her. I was not a big fan of the social media heavy format of the show. Having … [Read more...] about this is uncomfortable
six months
Today is the six month anniversary of my blog. So I coined a new word in its honor --- blog-a-versary. Well, I thought I coined it until I Googled it and it turns out every other blogger is already using it. Sometimes it feels like there are no good ideas left... So yes, Happy Blog-a-versary to Me! Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading and encouraging me to keep going. My goal for this first six months was simply to write, and I have had such a great time sharing in this new-to-me … [Read more...] about six months
snap out of it
The entire contents of my closet is on the floor. I love the fall. It's my favorite season, but this wardrobe transition is sucking. The things I loved last year have no appeal to me now. When I close my eyes and picture what I want to wear, I see nothing. It’s blank. I’ve lost my style. Poof. It’s gone. I don’t know what I like. What I want. What I would buy if I had the money and time to really go shopping. And I'm the kind of girl that for better or worse, it matters to me. Personal style … [Read more...] about snap out of it
three things i’m tossing out the window
I’m going a little tough love on myself this week. I have some go-to excuses that I’ve been using (admittedly for years) that keep me from getting to the things that I say are really important to me. We all have that list whether it’s the big sort of dreams that we’re not going after or the little daily choices like eating healthy or staying organized. So it’s time to banish the excuses and get down to business. Here are three things I’m tossing out the window… 1. There's a right way. I'm the … [Read more...] about three things i’m tossing out the window
it’s enough
I’ve been waiting for this week. I’ve been living by the refrain…when the kids go back to school. But this week is kind of a false start – we had Monday off for Labor Day and then Thursday and Friday off for Rosh Hashanah. That’s only two days of school to work with. Not enough time to get into a groove on anything. So I decided that I would give myself the gift of two days. After a long weekend of having guests and getting ready for those guests (we had a great visit with my brothers and … [Read more...] about it’s enough
three things on my list
I'm not feeling sad about the end of summer. Or sending the kids off to school. I love both. I love new supplies and new tennis shoes and emergency contact information sheets that I have to fill out 42 separate times. I love the little systems that we use to keep ourselves organized and the morning routine and our daily breakfast menu and the homework rituals. I love it all. I love it all until June when I'm sick of it all. It's the perfect system. Sure I will think about my kids when they … [Read more...] about three things on my list
