I Will Not Wish Away Spring

April 22, 2015 Kaly Sullivan Leave a Comment

Growing up in Florida, I dreamed of crisp fall days, snowy winters, and the plaid ensembles in Seventeen magazine that I thought would be the perfect complement to seasonal weather. Now having spent the bulk of my life in the Northeast, I've fully adopted the native perspective on warm weather. It is sacred. Sitting on my front stoop, I warm my bare legs and feet in the spring sun. It's still cool in the shade, but in the morning the steps of my front porch are bathed in direct sunlight. The Only Parenting Advice You’ll Ever Need #10yearsaparent

The only parenting advice that you'll ever need.

There is so much information about parenting, sometimes I wonder what I could possibly add to the conversation. Especially since I realized that every parenting discussion can be boiled down to three things: Keep your eyes on your own paper. Do yourself a favor and stop worrying, judging, criticizing, analyzing, discussing other people's parenting. It's kind of like talking about the weather–a supreme waste of time and energy funneled into something that you can not control. Focus on … [Read more...] about The Only Parenting Advice You’ll Ever Need #10yearsaparent

Where to Find Me: Reset & The 90s

April 15, 2015 Kaly Sullivan Leave a Comment

I've spent most of the past two weeks traveling. First on spring break and then to a family wedding. I've really enjoyed my adventures, but my travels haven't left me much time for writing. Now I'm feeling rusty and struggling to get back into the swing of things. I've decided to take my own advice and press the reset button (see Mamalode post below). I'm taking some time to reevaluate, rethink, and plot my next steps. In the meantime, here are two guest posts that I hope you'll … [Read more...] about Where to Find Me: Reset & The 90s

Guest post on The Mid

What a week. I'm reeling a little bit from my recent guest post opportunities, some back to back travel, and all the odds and ends of getting Good Move ready to be released into the world. I am excited to share some new work that I think you will like as well as some old classics in new places. If you have a minute to check any of these out, please comment, like, and share. Repeat After Me: I Am The Mother.

the answers are not on google

Dear mom searching Google for the answers, I know you. Because I was you. You can trust me when I tell you, there is no right answer. You have everything you need. You are the parent. Walk to a mirror, look yourself in the eye and repeat, I am the mother until you believe it. Chances are you feel like an impostor, like you have no credentials, no degree or certificate. Maybe you're doubting everything, maybe the anxiety and sleep deprivation have left you a little shakey. … [Read more...] about Repeat After Me: I Am The Mother.

Five Parenting Mistakes I Make Over and Over Again #10yearsaparent

parenting mistakes i make over and over again

If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, parenting might indeed be driving me insane. I make these mistakes over and over again, and the results are always, well, the same. 1. Believing I'm capable of multi-tasking. Yesterday I was making dinner while sorting through piles of untouched mail, answering two children's repeated requests for help with homework, and formulating witty responses to a very large group text with high … [Read more...] about Five Parenting Mistakes I Make Over and Over Again #10yearsaparent

I've been feeling the need for a little more fun and creativity in my day-to-day. I used to spend a lot of time making cards, little books, drawing and painting, but my art supplies have been collecting a fair amount of dust since I've been focused on writing. I miss that creative spark. But I needed something that was easy. That I could add to my days without pressure or guilt. Because not all good things have to be complicated and hard work. Sometimes easy is just what the doctor … [Read more...] about #GoodMove

Why Parenting Is So Hard #10yearsaparent

A look at All Joy and No Fun and why modern parenting is so hard

Have you ever wondered why there is an army of mommy and daddy bloggers talking about how hard being a parent is? Is it because they have access to communication channels we've never had before? Because they have the freedom to talk about the hard stuff and brush off the sugar coating? Or is it because modern parenting is really harder for us than it was for our parents? Recently I had the opportunity to see award-winning journalist and author Jennifer Senior speak about her book All Joy and … [Read more...] about Why Parenting Is So Hard #10yearsaparent
