He's so tall. A pretty innocent statement. But holy moly, after a while I just can't take it anymore! Excited to have my first post on BLUNTmoms today. This is a site where moms can really go there. And so I did. … [Read more...] about he’s so tall.

the slippery slope of a broken routine
It's a slippery slope. Taking a break from a routine. Just one more piece of Halloween candy... I'll get back to yoga tomorrow... One more night of take-out... The wine is already open, might as well have a glass... I think I'm giving myself a break, a treat, a little grace period. But that break, that treat – it's making me feel like crap. This is a hard time of year. The colder weather leaves us hunched and drained. The shorter days make us crawl towards bed at an … [Read more...] about the slippery slope of a broken routine

you don’t have to listen to crappy kids’ music #10yearsaparent
It took me a few years of Laurie Berkner on repeat being pushed to the very edge of insanity to come to the realization that just because you have kids doesn't mean that you have to listen to crappy kids' music. It's a slippery slope – you want to do something nice for your child, give them the best environment that you can so that they grow and learn and blossom. And you think, Music! Music is what we need! And music made specifically for kids is not torturous at first, if you listen to … [Read more...] about you don’t have to listen to crappy kids’ music #10yearsaparent
a little new orleans getaway
Sometimes the stars just align. Your husband has a work trip in New Orleans, your in-laws are coming into town and can help take care of your kids, the airfare to New Orleans is reasonable and you don't have much else going on so you think, why not? Why not tag along? So today, I'm writing in New Orleans. It could be a hotel room in any city, but here are a few things that are making this little New Orleans getaway special. The octopus carpaccio at Domenica's. Want to eat it every … [Read more...] about a little new orleans getaway
ten years a parent #10yearsaparent
Today my son turns nine, and I'm determined to make it about me. I'm celebrating ten years a parent. Ten years, people. The longest I've held any job. (I admit it's not exactly ten years, because I am adding my pregnancy into the figure which is only nine months. But it's close enough for this purpose.) And what is this purpose you may ask? A new blog series titled: Ten Years A Parent #10yearsaparent Over the next year or few months or until I run out of ideas, every Friday I … [Read more...] about ten years a parent #10yearsaparent
i like to be prepared so i bought a costume for 2024
My oldest son wants to be a Phillies player for Halloween, but he doesn't want to have any old uniform. He wants the gray uniform that the team wears at away games. And he would prefer a player's jersey with a name and number. The kid's birthday is actually on Halloween, so I figure if I can make this happen I can count it as his birthday gift as well as his costume. Efficient and cost-effective. Another brilliant move by Mom. But finding the desired jersey was a little more challenging … [Read more...] about i like to be prepared so i bought a costume for 2024
the world won’t end if you’re not perfect
You've heard the saying Nobody's perfect? Until fairly recently, my reply would have been... It's because they're not trying hard enough. It was only after Brené Brown called me out on my addiction to perfectionism that I started to loosen my grip on my attempts to be perfect. I started to make an effort to be more real about my experiences, because real is vulnerable and relatable, and perfect, well perfect is just plain annoying. And boring. It was during my ongoing battle to slay … [Read more...] about the world won’t end if you’re not perfect
