When BonBon Break put out a call for submissions for their Fill Your Bucket theme, I was excited to throw my hat in the ring. One, because I am a huge advocate for filling one's bucket, and two because I thought this would be a great opportunity to share more about our relocation and how it impacted our family. Sometimes filling your bucket is not intentional. It's a byproduct of another event in your life or a transition that you are going through. And it's only looking back that you can see … [Read more...] about Fill Your Bucket: Moving With Kids

Announcing Good Move: A Book About Moving with Kids
Today I've got some big news. I'm sharing the title and cover design for my upcoming book about relocating with your family. See the full cover design and get more info on the book here. And make sure you head over to Facebook and likey-likey our page! When I started writing this book, my goal was to create the book I wish I had when my family was moving. Today I thought I'd share my five favorite things about Good Move: 1. Making the decision to move: This book is designed so that … [Read more...] about Announcing Good Move: A Book About Moving with Kids
moving with kids: one year later
Last July, our family left Massachusetts where I went to college, where my husband and I met, where our children were born and where we had lived for most of our adult lives. It was where we had built our life together. It was home. And while we were very happy with some aspects of that life, we felt that some of the things that we valued as a family weren't exactly how we yearned for them to be. When a career opportunity was offered to Kevin that would move us to a different city … [Read more...] about moving with kids: one year later
the minimalists
On Tuesday night, I went to a book reading of Everything That Remains a memoir by The Minimalists - Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus. These best friends shared their experience of converting from a life filled with empty consumption to a life of value. Not like the value meal as in big portions or double coupons but to a simple deliberate life where every choice you make you're asking yourself, does this bring me value? Or joy? This idea, this philosophy, is something that has really … [Read more...] about the minimalists
one month in
It's been one month since we've moved. The boxes are either unpacked or have been categorized as "deal with when kids go back to school" and stashed in the basement. And our little house is starting to come together if I do say so myself (look for video tours on the blog soon). And as the dust settles and the trauma from the actual move fades into a distant memory, I thought I'd do a little update on how we're actually doing. Or should I say, how I'm actually doing because Kevin is kicking … [Read more...] about one month in
settling in
Now that the moving drama is over and a week in the past (although the imaginary telling off of the moving company where they finally admit how they wronged us is still being looped in my head), I am happy to say that we are settling in quite nicely. Although it does feel like we’re on vacation in a rental house somewhere except that Kevin has to go to work. Which I guess is exactly what is going on. The kids are on vacation, we live in a rental house, and Kevin goes to work. And the place … [Read more...] about settling in
am i being punked?
For the last five days, I've been waiting for, hoping that Ashton would jump out of the bushes and say, "We got you! This is a new non-celebrity version of punked and this is the biggest prank we've ever pulled off!" This move has gone from bad to absurd to absolutely unbelievable and back again. It has been a comedy of errors except for when I was locking myself in the bathroom to bawl my eyes out so the kids wouldn't see me. Then it was more like a tragedy. Kevin and I just keep looking at … [Read more...] about am i being punked?
ready. set. wait.
It's the perfect summer night. I'm sitting in the grass outside the hotel. The problem is that the hotel is in Worcester. Yes, we are still in Worcester. Our moving company has dropped the ball. They were supposed to pick up our stuff yesterday morning. But we're still waiting. First the truck broke down that was supposed to move us. And then because they couldn't fix it, they offloaded our job to a different company. We're not their problem anymore. I just got off the phone with the … [Read more...] about ready. set. wait.
