Last week, one of my favorite people was in town. Well, one of my favorite people that I don't actually know - the very talented and amazing and inspiring Anna Quindlen. A former journalist, columnist and now novelist, Anna Quindlen was also the speaker at my college commencement. I'm convinced she wrote that commencement speech for me. She looked inside me, saw all of my struggles and spoke directly to me. Of course she didn't. But it felt like that. That is one her gifts as a writer. … [Read more...] about meeting anna quindlen

Well, the weekend is here and we have zero plans. Sometimes zero plans can be good. But sometimes zero plans turns into two days spent indoors refereeing wrestling children who can not stand to be either near or apart from each other. Which trust me is not entertaining, relaxing or restorative in the least. And 25% of us have a cold. I was able to battle it off (I found this yoga sequence to be really helpful), but another one of us was struck yesterday. But wait. I guess I have some … [Read more...] about what kaly found v.14
three things about resistance
I am throwing a lot of personal development at you lately, but I guess that's just the space I'm in right now. I promise I haven't totally lost my sense of humor. I guess I'm just trying to keep myself motivated and on track and one step ahead of resistance. I had an idea in the fall for a pretty big project. I'm not ready to go into specifics just yet, but when I decide to make some sort of public declaration of intent, you'll be the first to know. But I had this idea and was feeling very … [Read more...] about three things about resistance

Well, let's see, what I found this week is that it's pretty difficult to get anything done when your youngest is wiped out by a stomach bug. Watching your kids be sick is bad enough, but sitting around waiting for it to strike you isn't much fun either. I thought that this week I would give you a list of some of my favorite books that have helped me over the last few years. After I posted the whole story of my personal development, I realized that I was offering a glimpse into something … [Read more...] about what kaly found v.12
three things you should know about introverts
A few weeks ago, I mentioned an interview with author Susan Cain and her book Quiet - The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking. After I saw the interview, I ordered the book immediately. But instead of book bingeing like I often do, I read this book slooowly. Enjoying every little morsel. There are some books that inspire you. Some books that change your point of view. This was a book that validated my whole existence. Pretty big claim right? Well, if you consider yourself … [Read more...] about three things you should know about introverts

This week I have a little something for everyone on your list. Enjoy what kaly found v.10 - gift guide style. For the romantics - There's been a lot of discussion this week about Love Actually and whether or not it's a good movie or a romantic movie or even a Christmas movie. If you want to get in on the discussion, you can read the criticism here, and then the defenders start to come out here and here. Personally it's one of my favorite movies ever. I even modeled our holiday card … [Read more...] about what kaly found v.10

So much good stuff this week. Lots to share... I was so excited to come across this interview with author and fellow introvert Susan Cain. Which led me to her TED talk. Which led me to ordering her book, Quiet. As an introvert, I feel like I have been trying my whole life to fight against my nature, but Susan's work is a good reminder that the world needs introverts too. If you're an introvert or love an introvert, the TED talk is a great place to start. Loved this article in the New York … [Read more...] about what kaly found v.7
