I've got giving on my mind. And the new year. And I'm really amped up for both. And somehow, I've managed to keep the spending and the shopping and the mania under control. Fingers crossed with two weeks left. (If you're feeling the pull to do more, check out my posts on finding the balance and three things at the center of our holiday.) And with this extra time and space, I'm zooming out. Way, way out. I'm looking at the big picture. I'm looking at a warm shelter after many said … [Read more...] about what will you bring?

three things at the center of our holiday
Last week I wrote about how during the holidays I walk the line between wanting to do and buy everything and taking on way too much and feeling overwhelmed. Plus I'm feeling this pressure, admittedly totally self-created and self-imposed that since we are in a new city and in a new home, the holidays need to be more magical then ever. This is so ridiculous on so many levels, but it's there sitting in my head taunting me. If anything, I should get a complete free pass for Christmas considering … [Read more...] about three things at the center of our holiday
finding balance during the holidays
It happens every year. The Holidays. Deep breath. This is a little insight that I picked up in yoga recently that I thought might come in handy for this time of year. This time of year that we want so badly to be joyful but find ourselves being pulled in a million different directions. So as we head into the holidays... Are you operating on a surplus or a deficit? When I'm operating from a deficit, it's all about more, more, more. I want more. I need more. Time, money, love, … [Read more...] about finding balance during the holidays
the trader joe’s incident
Trader Joe's is my happy place. And even though it's small and crowded and it takes a lot of maneuvering and circling to get what you need, I'm hook, line and sinker for their brand and philosophy and I do the majority of my food shopping there. I'm a regular. I know where everything is and more than once I've helped shoppers locate an item. I've even helped little old ladies get things off the top shelf. When we moved, I picked our new neighborhood based on its close proximity to Trader Joe's. … [Read more...] about the trader joe’s incident
three things i’m grateful for: myself edition
I'm trying to beat everyone else to the punch and get my gratitude post in well before Thanksgiving. Before we're too bogged down with stuffing recipes and crafty place tags and Black Friday ads and gratitude becomes a forced discussion around the dinner table where my kids say things like "I'm grateful for Clash of Clans." Gratitude is more than saying thank you. It's a deep appreciation for what you have. And often we look externally - to our relationships and the people in our life that … [Read more...] about three things i’m grateful for: myself edition
three things about when to play hooky
First things first - thank you to everyone that responded to my three things* post last week. Your comments, shares and likes were so inspiring. I was grinning ear to ear all week, feeling like I'm on to something and excited about where to go from here. Even if I don't make the final cut for the Babble Top 100 Blogs of 2013. I feel like I've gotten some great exposure. I owe you. Big time. And coming off of last week, I am accepting that some days are just meant to be hooky days. I wrote two … [Read more...] about three things about when to play hooky
gremlins, aka those voices in your head
This week in honor of Halloween, I'm tackling some scary subjects. First up, gremlins. Later this week, I'll dive into parenting and then fear. If you're of a certain age, gremlins are those little fuzzy guys that you want to keep away from bright lights, water and late night snacks. But more recently, gremlins is a term that's become popular for those little voices in your head feeding your fears and telling you that you are not enough. Sometimes they're called saboteurs or inner critics or … [Read more...] about gremlins, aka those voices in your head
three things you can do for me
It occurred to me after I whipped off this mission post last week that maybe I needed to explain myself a little bit more. And back up a little bit. To the beginning. I started this blog because I was feeling disconnected from myself and my life. I wanted to be more engaged. I wanted to rediscover my voice. I wanted to share my experiences hoping that you would connect to them too. I wanted to get comfortable writing and sharing and putting myself out there. I wanted to know that I’m not the … [Read more...] about three things you can do for me
