fall fashion outlook

September 24, 2014 Kaly Sullivan Leave a Comment

Oh September, the most beautiful month of the year. Brisk mornings, warmish afternoons, crisp air, cool breezes. I love you. You are without a doubt my favorite. Except for one small thing. What the hell am I supposed to wear? You are an in between month and my closet is one of extremes. My wardrobe is not nuanced enough for your brand of mildness. It leaves me out of sorts. Neither here nor there. Too early for boots and sweaters. Too late for sun dresses and sandals. September, … [Read more...] about fall fashion outlook

the coach’s wife

September 23, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 6 Comments

I'm not sure how I got here. My husband sends a casual email offering to help out, and before I can say "Touchdown!" I am the wife of a flag football coach. I have a lot to learn about being a coach's wife. At children's sporting events, I usually park myself away from the crowd and stare in the direction of the field not really paying attention. My sunglasses are my best friend hiding my lack of engagement. No amount of Friday Night Lights, could have prepared me for the role of coach's wife. … [Read more...] about the coach’s wife

getting out of a rut

September 18, 2014 Kaly Sullivan Leave a Comment

There are some lessons that we have to learn over and over again. That doesn't make them any easier. It actually makes it even more frustrating - haven't I already been here before? I'm feeling less than inspired this week, and I can't seem to put my finger on what is holding me back. So I've dusted off a few of my tried and true techniques for getting out of a rut: 1. Start small. Just do one tiny thing, but start. 2. Be good to your body. Exercise, make good food choices, get plenty of … [Read more...] about getting out of a rut

on my nightstand

September 16, 2014 Kaly Sullivan Leave a Comment

I've been on a big fiction kick lately. Some travel in August and a lack of any new television to park myself in front of left me seeking out good stories in books. Here's what I read: The Engagements, Courtney Sullivan: Following the story of four couple and the ad-executive that created the phrase, A Diamond is Forever, this novel looks at marriage and relationships from many different angles (that all come together but not until the end). From a Distance, Raffaella Barker: This book … [Read more...] about on my nightstand

i wish my family was…

September 11, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 2 Comments

I wish my family was... Rich. That's how my eight year-old son filled in the blank prompted by his day-by-day journal. I hadn't been intentionally spying. I was straightening his room and just picked up his journal and opened it to a random entry to see if he was still journaling daily. I wish my family was rich. I felt like I had been punched in the gut. How had I failed to instill our values, a sense of perspective and an understanding of what is important? Because the truth … [Read more...] about i wish my family was…

i wrote a book

September 9, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 4 Comments

About a year ago, I had an idea for a book, and I decided to write it. I haven't written a book before. While I liked the idea of writing a book, since I wasn't an expert in any particular area and I didn't have a character that I wanted to bring to life, I had never really thought of writing a book as a possibility. Once I came up with an idea, I certainly didn't know if I would be able to finish it. I was scared of the incomplete manuscript. I was worried that a book would be just another … [Read more...] about i wrote a book

summer scrapbook

September 5, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 2 Comments

People keep asking, How was your summer? And I keep replying, Great. It was. I genuinely feel great about it. I wanted to have a balance of busy and not busy. Activities and free time. On the road and home. And I think we did exactly that. But what did we do exactly? Already, the days are getting blurry. This post is really for me. To remind myself of all of the fun things we did and the adventures we had. I want this one last moment of summer before I turn myself over to fall. I'm … [Read more...] about summer scrapbook

we can end this together

September 2, 2014 Kaly Sullivan 9 Comments

We have a lot of blessings in our life. One that makes it to the top of the list is the fact that our kids are old enough to be dropped off at birthday parties. Now that we are back to school, the birthday party invitations will start rolling in. I am not a huge fan of children's birthday parties, (thank you Evite for assisting in my undercover invitation declining). But even if you don't agree with my extreme desire to ban all birthday celebrations that include anything besides your … [Read more...] about we can end this together
