When someone, especially my children, make a statement like – I'm hungry. I'm tired. I'm bored. It drives me bonkers. Don't make declarations, I tell them. Ask for what you want. It is with this in mind that I've signed up for a year long program where the goal is to get 100 rejection letters. Because if you're not getting rejected, you're certainly not asking for what you want. I started this blog a year and a half ago, because there was a little whisper inside me that said: … [Read more...] about did you ask for what you want?
pinterest is not the problem
I read a blog post this week encouraging parents, mothers specifically, to stop being so competitive and succumbing to the pressure to be perfect, and to embrace good enough. And while I totally agree that parents need to lay off the judgement of other families and their choices and stop being so hard on ourselves, I feel like I need to come to the defense of mothers who are being slammed for trying to be perfect, over-achieving, and generally make life difficult for every other … [Read more...] about pinterest is not the problem
i get knocked down, but i get up again.
A large part of being a grown up is how you handle the day-to-day set backs that leave you frustrated, disappointed, and ready to throw in the towel. I'm not talking about the big things that change everything like illness or accidents or tragedies. Those are in a category all by themselves, and you never know how you will react until they happen directly to you. I'm talking about the curve balls that life throws at you just to make sure that you're on your toes. The things that leave you … [Read more...] about i get knocked down, but i get up again.

Okay people. This is not a drill. Today I have my first piece of writing being published on another web site. The web site is Mamalode which has quickly become one of my very favorites. They publish three new pieces a day under a monthly theme. This month the theme is Start Something and my piece is being featured today. And I want YOU to go check it out. Let's send some traffic their way. Please forward and share until you can't anymore. Hopefully it will be the first of many … [Read more...] about read this, pretty please
golf lessons
I started playing golf in high school. Maybe I read somewhere that having a team sport and an individual sport on your college applications was a smart move, so I added golf in the spring to balance out soccer in the winter. Or maybe I just needed an excuse to go out and whack at things. You know hormones and all that. My high school golf team was anchored by one consistently good player (that was not me) and a few mediocre hackers (that would be me) that were anything but consistent. But my … [Read more...] about golf lessons
you have no idea
The other day I put my kids on the school bus, went to yoga, stopped by the wine store, got home and made a green, gluten-free, dairy-free smoothie, swapped my lululemon yoga pants out for a pair of pre-distressed boyfriend jeans, put my hair in a top knot, made my Whole Foods list... And thought holy shit, I am such a mom cliché. Could I be morphing into a soccer mom, a Stepford Wife or the more recent lululemon mom? Or some mutant variation of all three? How and when did that happen? This … [Read more...] about you have no idea
current events
Remember in middle school when you had to clip an article out of the newspaper and bring it into social studies to share with your class? Way back when your family got the local newspaper every day not just because they were thinking about having a fire in the fireplace? I'm pretending that I'm in seventh grade again (minus the braces, over styled bangs and perm) and doing my own current events report this week. This is what I've found. The world is really messed up. I'm not kidding guys, it's … [Read more...] about current events
something to look forward to
Recently I was reading a blog post by writer and blogger Jeff Goins. He was sharing that one of his secrets to marriage success is having a common goal or something to look forward to. You can check out the post here. I forwarded the blog post to my husband, because I thought it would be an interesting conversation piece and then I wrote down the following in my notebook where I keep all of my random thoughts: I need something to look forward to. And there it sat for weeks. I need something … [Read more...] about something to look forward to
