do what you want

nothing

If you could do anything you want today, what would you do?

Forget about work, chores, obligations.

What would you choose?

To feel a little bit closer to yourself. Not quite as stretched thin.

I was feeling a little stretched. Fighting off something. A bug? Allergies maybe?

My whole being ached to let go.

I asked myself, if you could do anything today on this rainy, cold spring day…

what would you do?

Because you can, you know. You can do whatever you want.

But there’s work….

But there’s deadlines…

But there’s dishes in the sink…

What would happen if you let them go?

If you did whatever you wanted. If you used a sick day. If you took a break.

Just for one day.

The world will not end. It will all still be there tomorrow.

Every last item on the never ending list.

So really, if you could do anything, what would you do?

You might find it’s surprisingly simple.

Here’s my list:

Yoga, make myself a nice healthy lunch, take the longest, warmest shower ever, work from bed (where I’m writing this), read something just for fun, and nap.

It’s not about the big. The extravagant. The dream.

It’s simply taking care of yourself. For one day.

Hit pause. And stop seeking. Stop striving. Stop trying to find.

The perfect dress. The perfect window treatment. The perfect solution. The perfect font.  The most inspiring tweet.

If I could do anything, I would choose these very simple, accessible things?

Yes, I guess I would.

And so I did.

What about you?

authenticity, indescribable events

I think your choices sound just about perfect. It is hard to stop striving but feels so good when you give yourself permission to do so.

Yes – it was a good day of just letting everything sit and settle in a bit. A luxury for sure but I think sometimes we convince ourselves that we don’t have a choice when we really we do.
