I was talking with someone recently, and they asked what I did for work. Do I work outside the home? (This is always a hot button for me. Even the phrasing of this question makes me bristle but that's a whole different post.) Well....not really, no, right now I have a blog. What's it about? It's mostly about personal development and trying to live an authentic life. And you know, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. So I write about that. I love that. I try to be really … [Read more...] about breaking down authenticity

meeting anna quindlen
Last week, one of my favorite people was in town. Well, one of my favorite people that I don't actually know - the very talented and amazing and inspiring Anna Quindlen. A former journalist, columnist and now novelist, Anna Quindlen was also the speaker at my college commencement. I'm convinced she wrote that commencement speech for me. She looked inside me, saw all of my struggles and spoke directly to me. Of course she didn't. But it felt like that. That is one her gifts as a writer. … [Read more...] about meeting anna quindlen

thanks
I was going to tack on a thank you to the beginning of a different post, but then the thank you was getting really long. Maybe it was getting so long because it was way overdue. So here goes. Thanks for stopping by. Starting this blog was something I wanted to do for a lot of different reasons, but I never thought much about how it would make me feel. In the beginning I thought that if I shared a little, gave a little bit of myself away, I would be overcoming some long held fears. What I … [Read more...] about thanks
career coach
A few weeks ago, I wrote about taking risks and a Risk Challenge held by Live in the Grey that I had entered and ended up winning. I recently cashed in my prize - a free hour long coaching session with career coach Caroline Zwick. I was excited for my session. First of all, I live for this stuff. I am a self-help, therapy, coaching, self-reflection junkie. And second of all, after a few years of career uncertainty and taking the time to maybe get it right this time, I've had some major … [Read more...] about career coach
what kaly found – retirement party
I'm creeping up on one year of blogging about everything under the sun and doing my best to always keep it real. And in my effort to keep it real, I'm always questioning, seeking, reevaluating and overthinking. It's just how I roll. It's time for some changes. It's time to unleash another iteration of this blog into the world. Don't panic. The blog is not going away. Just take a few deep breaths. And no, I'm not pregnant which always seems to be the next question. But I am … [Read more...] about what kaly found – retirement party
birthday on the horizon
A few years ago, I took my birthday off Facebook. I wasn't trying to be demure about my age. I wanted to do a little social experiment and go back to a pre-Facebook world where the birthdays of special people were stored in a little corner of your mind. Even though you might miss it by a day or two, it was seeing the date on a calendar or while scheduling a meeting or writing it on a form or even a check (remember those?) that made you think about that person. Your brain was forced to make the … [Read more...] about birthday on the horizon
winter olympics – nbc tries to ruin sochi
I love the Winter Olympics. Maybe it's because I grew up in a warm climate. Maybe it's because I wish I was Scandinavian. Maybe it's because I love spandex. I turn it on every day, and my favorite events are the ones that are head-to-head races vs. timed/judged competitions - biathlon (of course - who doesn't love the biathlon?), cross-country skiing and short track are a few I make sure to watch. But I'm not liking the coverage. I've come to expect it be heavy in figure skating and ice … [Read more...] about winter olympics – nbc tries to ruin sochi
