I started playing golf in high school. Maybe I read somewhere that having a team sport and an individual sport on your college applications was a smart move, so I added golf in the spring to balance out soccer in the winter. Or maybe I just needed an excuse to go out and whack at things. You know hormones and all that. My high school golf team was anchored by one consistently good player (that was not me) and a few mediocre hackers (that would be me) that were anything but consistent. But my … [Read more...] about golf lessons

you have no idea
The other day I put my kids on the school bus, went to yoga, stopped by the wine store, got home and made a green, gluten-free, dairy-free smoothie, swapped my lululemon yoga pants out for a pair of pre-distressed boyfriend jeans, put my hair in a top knot, made my Whole Foods list... And thought holy shit, I am such a mom cliché. Could I be morphing into a soccer mom, a Stepford Wife or the more recent lululemon mom? Or some mutant variation of all three? How and when did that happen? This … [Read more...] about you have no idea
current events
Remember in middle school when you had to clip an article out of the newspaper and bring it into social studies to share with your class? Way back when your family got the local newspaper every day not just because they were thinking about having a fire in the fireplace? I'm pretending that I'm in seventh grade again (minus the braces, over styled bangs and perm) and doing my own current events report this week. This is what I've found. The world is really messed up. I'm not kidding guys, it's … [Read more...] about current events
fall fashion outlook
Oh September, the most beautiful month of the year. Brisk mornings, warmish afternoons, crisp air, cool breezes. I love you. You are without a doubt my favorite. Except for one small thing. What the hell am I supposed to wear? You are an in between month and my closet is one of extremes. My wardrobe is not nuanced enough for your brand of mildness. It leaves me out of sorts. Neither here nor there. Too early for boots and sweaters. Too late for sun dresses and sandals. September, … [Read more...] about fall fashion outlook
the coach’s wife
I'm not sure how I got here. My husband sends a casual email offering to help out, and before I can say "Touchdown!" I am the wife of a flag football coach. I have a lot to learn about being a coach's wife. At children's sporting events, I usually park myself away from the crowd and stare in the direction of the field not really paying attention. My sunglasses are my best friend hiding my lack of engagement. No amount of Friday Night Lights, could have prepared me for the role of coach's wife. … [Read more...] about the coach’s wife
we can end this together
We have a lot of blessings in our life. One that makes it to the top of the list is the fact that our kids are old enough to be dropped off at birthday parties. Now that we are back to school, the birthday party invitations will start rolling in. I am not a huge fan of children's birthday parties, (thank you Evite for assisting in my undercover invitation declining). But even if you don't agree with my extreme desire to ban all birthday celebrations that include anything besides your … [Read more...] about we can end this together
it’s over
It's over. Absolutely, positively over. The good news: we rocked this summer. I was nervous. And then I changed my attitude. And it's been great. It's actually been mostly pleasant and surprisingly fun. The bad news: we peaked too early. To all of you who have already started school, as I begrudgingly like your pictures on Facebook, I'm not-so-secretly envious of you. It's the last week of summer for us, and I'm done. Checked out. The positive attitude, the creative ideas, … [Read more...] about it’s over
the hotel life
On our way back from a family visit in Florida, my husband and I spent one night at Amelia Island Plantation to celebrate our eleventh wedding anniversary. Now we are back home and I'm plotting when and how I can check back into a hotel. I'm not thinking about marriage or why alone time with your spouse is important or how magical poolside margaritas can be for one's spirit. Today I am thinking about hotels. And how much I love them. Last year during our relocation, we spent a lot of … [Read more...] about the hotel life
