A few weeks ago I decided to participate in a Risk Challenge. For ten days Live in the Grey would give me a risk to take, and I would bravely take on whatever they threw at me. I had no idea what to expect. Live in the Grey is a resource dedicated to helping you combine what you do with what you love. Their philosophy is that career and passion should not be separate. They should overlap - that's the grey part - and the best life is one where your work is your passion and your passion is your … [Read more...] about risky business

the bravest thing i’ve ever done
What's the bravest thing you've ever done? That was the topic of the Real Simple Life Lessons essay contest this year. I've only entered one other writing contest in my life. It was seventh grade, and I wrote an essay (it was required) about Frederick Douglass in honor of black history month. There was an awards ceremony and a plaque and a podium. I can't recall what I wrote and what made it earn first place, but I do remember that the entry pool was on the small side. I was due to enter … [Read more...] about the bravest thing i’ve ever done
three things about resistance
I am throwing a lot of personal development at you lately, but I guess that's just the space I'm in right now. I promise I haven't totally lost my sense of humor. I guess I'm just trying to keep myself motivated and on track and one step ahead of resistance. I had an idea in the fall for a pretty big project. I'm not ready to go into specifics just yet, but when I decide to make some sort of public declaration of intent, you'll be the first to know. But I had this idea and was feeling very … [Read more...] about three things about resistance
what kaly found v.12
Well, let's see, what I found this week is that it's pretty difficult to get anything done when your youngest is wiped out by a stomach bug. Watching your kids be sick is bad enough, but sitting around waiting for it to strike you isn't much fun either. I thought that this week I would give you a list of some of my favorite books that have helped me over the last few years. After I posted the whole story of my personal development, I realized that I was offering a glimpse into something … [Read more...] about what kaly found v.12
the whole story
I feel like maybe I've been holding back a little. Posting funny anecdotes and surface level stuff that while entertaining isn't always as real as I want to be. Even if you've known me for awhile, I might not have given you the whole story. I'm an introvert remember? So let's get on the same page. I haven’t come right out and told my story about the changes I’ve made over the past two years. I guess it feels a little hokey – finding yourself. That’s something you’re supposed to do backpacking … [Read more...] about the whole story
three things you should know about introverts
A few weeks ago, I mentioned an interview with author Susan Cain and her book Quiet - The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking. After I saw the interview, I ordered the book immediately. But instead of book bingeing like I often do, I read this book slooowly. Enjoying every little morsel. There are some books that inspire you. Some books that change your point of view. This was a book that validated my whole existence. Pretty big claim right? Well, if you consider yourself … [Read more...] about three things you should know about introverts
an attempt to unplug
I've participated in social media fasts before, and I found them to be really helpful. At the time, it allowed me to focus on some important things without distraction. It was amazing how much I felt aware of myself and the world around me. I've also been trying to cut down how and when I use my phone as a crutch or distraction. So between Christmas and New Year's I decided to give myself a little respite from social media and connectedness and put away my phone. I would take the opportunity … [Read more...] about an attempt to unplug
three things: delayed new year
Don't you worry, I'm still here. Just a little bit of a delayed start in the New Year. I have a couple of excuses involving Hercules and well, I've been sick. So that stinks. And I haven't bounded into 2014 as I had hoped. It's more like crawling and stopping to rest every 20 to 25 minutes. And being sick has left me feeling a little blue. Because I've been playing fast and loose with my diet and that's what got me into this sick mess. Because I've been reading too much and watching too many … [Read more...] about three things: delayed new year
