I was in a webinar earlier this week about building your audience. And the first step to becoming a writer is to own your identity as a writer (Thanks Jeff Goins!).
For over the past year, I have been writing nearly every day. I’ve written over 136 blog posts, thousands and thousands of words strung together in various degrees of success, and as of last Thursday, I can officially say I’ve completed a draft of a book that will be published this fall.
But I don’t call myself a writer. I haven’t fully embraced it.
So here it is – I am a writer.
And you know what? I’ve been a writer all along. Little clues that I missed….in high school being chosen to be on ABC Nightly news based on an essay I wrote about girls and math, being told by an art teacher that the copy I developed for a project was better than the actual art (ouch), being rapidly promoted for my ability to share complicated business concepts in an accessible and dynamic way. Yes, the writing thing has been there all along.
In celebration of my self-actualization, I’m sharing five of my favorite blog posts. They are not necessarily the most popular with readers – you tend to like it best when I’m throwing eggs at my car, pretending to be a yoga model, and freaking out on an airplane. But I think these five capture my worldview – we live in a demanding, complicated, overwhelming world, but we have a choice. We can choose a simpler, more authentic life for ourselves and for our families if we can stay connected to what is really important.

Have a very real weekend.
Congratulations!! You deserve it. Yes, YOU ARE A WRITER! I forward your posts to friends and they all love it. I’m so happy for you.
Thanks Kelly – thanks for reading and sharing. Let’s get together soon!!!
