What a week. A blizzard followed by an ice storm. We were very lucky to keep our power and our cars and house intact. Many people are still without power and there are limbs and trees and wires down all over the place.

The kids were out of school most of the week and just went back today. I enjoyed the sleeping in part of the snow days, and on Monday it was good, beautiful snow and we spent the bulk of the day outside. But the rest of the week was ice and rain and more ice, leaving us trapped indoors. I held it together until about 7:00 last night when I locked myself in my room and binged on Nashville. Connie Britton can fix anything.

After the ice storm that hit Worcester in 2008 (here is a picture of our street post storm) leaving us without power for days while we all had a stomach bug, this storm was annoying but otherwise pretty uneventful for us.

Today the Winter Olympics kick off. I am a huge fan of the Winter Olympics but feeling a little uneasy about Sochi. Hopefully in four years we’ll be able to look back at the brewing incompetence and laugh. Just like I’m laughing at this McSweeney’s Tips & Tricks for Olympic Athletes & Fans. And that will be that. I thought this write up by a reporter who has covered the last nine Winter Games was a great reminder of the events to look forward to and the American athletes we should be watching.

Here are a few things other gems I bookmarked this week:

This is a helpful and inspirational resource for anyone interested in writing.

If you have a dysfunctional relationship with money, check out Kate Northrup’s blog and book about getting yourself into financial shape.

And finally, I’ve read and pinned this Ira Glass quote many times. It’s one that I keep going back to over and over. This video brings it to a whole new level.

Have a very real weekend.

Great quote from Ira Glass. As much as I love him, his mother, Shirley Glass, just blows my mind. She was a psychologist and wrote a book I believe is a MUST read for everyone in a marriage or an intimate relationship. The book is “Not Just Friends” and she “draws on more than two decades of original studies and hundreds of clinical cases to document the new crises of infidelity” but goes on to explain how couples can avoid it. http://www.shirleyglass.com/book.htm
