snow day

snow-day

We’re having a Wednesday snow day to break up the week.

Although, we had a half day Friday, Monday off, and Tuesday was a weather related early release.

So maybe it’s more of a Wednesday snow day to extend the long weekend.

Growing up in a mild climate, we didn’t have snow days. So they’re still a novelty to me. There’s something about a snow day that feels like a bonus. You’re not expected to do anything except shovel a bit and make hot chocolate.

The snow gear is piled and damp by the door. The dishes are still stacked. The laundry remains unfolded. The bathroom remains overdue for a scrub.

But snow days aren’t meant for those type of things.

They’re for rosy cheeks and hunkering down. There will be time for chores later. It’s not every day that you can make a nest of blankets, gather all the pillows and stuffed animals in the house, and watch a movie.

And when 4:30 rolls around and everyone is tired out and sick of each other, we snap back into reality and get ready for the business of the next day, a regular old day.

I’m not sure I’ll ever get over snow days.

I join the others, sighing at the bus stop, Another snow day. Eyes roll with disbelief.

Because that’s just what parents do. And I do dread it.

Until it happens.

When it does, I’m always excited to get the call.

Love it! That summarized it so well! Next time somebody from the South of France ask me: so what do you do on snow day? I ‘ll send them your post! We did not get a snow day on Wednesday, AKFC was smart enough to wait 5 am to see that we only got an inch of snow, Theo was so disappointed when he woke up…It was hard to switch gear!

Nothing worse than a highly anticipated snow day that never happens. Although I do feel like as they get further into the school year, the schools start to get a little bit stingier with the days off!
