For the last five days, I’ve been waiting for, hoping that Ashton would jump out of the bushes and say, “We got you! This is a new non-celebrity version of punked and this is the biggest prank we’ve ever pulled off!” This move has gone from bad to absurd to absolutely unbelievable and back again. It has been a comedy of errors except for when I was locking myself in the bathroom to bawl my eyes out so the kids wouldn’t see me. Then it was more like a tragedy. Kevin and I just keep looking at each other shaking our heads in disbelief. WTF? Is this really happening? Just when we thought it couldn’t possibly get worse, it did.
I can’t give you the whole story right now. I am in a Business Center in a Hilton near our new house, and we have to check out in 30 minutes. And I haven’t decided if the best way to move past this is to rehash or have that part of my brain erased. But I am very glad to say that it is over. We were finally picked up on Monday afternoon (scheduled for Friday am remember?). The buyers for our old house were very patient and the closing went through even though we were not technically out of the house before it was sold. Because the moving company only sent one dude – yes, ONE dude – to move our whole house, our neighbors pitched in to load the truck. Thanks guys. Our stuff was unloaded off the truck and into our new house last night. I am horrified by the entrance that we made into our new neighborhood – the most sketchy truck you’ve ever seen, moving in at night, me storming off with the kids to a hotel and leaving Kevin to deal with the movers and the neighbors. Not exactly what I had envisioned.
So I’m headed to Trader Joe’s to get some groceries. Ready to celebrate freedom. Freedom from the incompetencies of moving companies is what I will be toasting all weekend. I promise some pictures soon but I won’t be fully connected until the weekend. And I love our new house. We walked to the park yesterday and the boys found themselves in a whiffle ball game within five minutes. Once the puffiness surrounding my eyes goes down, we’re going to be just fine.
That sounds AWFUL! I hope you and the family get some peace this weekend!
We had a much deserved great weekend. Been thinking of you – thanks for the update email today.
Omg Kaly ! I was wondering why it took you so long I kept reading your fb posts like ” packing” then ” movers coming” then like 3 days later it was ” the last supper” and I was like ” I thought she left!” Hope u settle in nicely after this awful situation with your movers ( and yes you have to blog about it…) keep up the writing and the paper plates as dishes DO suck
I just ran out of paper plates!!!! I went to yoga and left the dishes for Kevin – heheheeheee…..
WELCOME!!!!! I’m so happy you are here but not so happy about how you got here. I am so sorry all of that happened to you. Moving is hard is everything goes as planned! We are in town and would be happy to help in anyway possible. We belong to a pool so we can swim to help with the heat wave. We will be in touch. Can’t wait to see you!
We are here! We broke down and joined a pool too. We’re definitely not used to this kind of heat and very glad we have central air. Let’s hook up a day to visit soon. We’re looking for excursions!
