So first things first – thank you. Thanks so much for stopping by to check out this project that has been bubbling around in my brain for the last 9 months. I didn’t anticipate that I would be launching this web site under these circumstances. But here’s the deal – after 8+ years in our current home, and countless other milestones that I could rattle off and bore you to tears, we are moving. And it’s not the, oh we need more space, it’s time for a change kind of move. It’s the OMG, we have to sell our house NOW. Because Kevin starts his new job in Philadelphia in, dare I count them, yes, in about 3 weeks.
So that’s the deal. At first I was planning on pushing back the release of this site but then I reminded myself of a few things
- Writing makes me feel better and it helps me process things, and I am going to have a lot to process in the coming weeks and months.
- If not now, then when? It’s like having a baby. There’s never a good time. There’s only the time that it’s happening.
- Building this little community might help me stay connected when I am feeling un-tethered.
Plus, you can only imagine the millions of moving parts this move will involve, and I’m going to need to hash it out. I am going to need your advice and your encouragement and your perspective. Philadelphia – a place where I have transferred planes many times. A place where I have spent a total of three hours walking around over 10 years ago. (Meagan & Jesse’s wedding 2002!!!)
So that’s my teaser….how will they pick a neighborhood? Will they sell their house? Will she throw things? You’ll have to keep reading to find out. And in the meantime, I’d love to get all of your Philadelphia insights in the comments. And words of encouragement of course. And any thoughts you might have about living with boat loads of uncertainty.

Yea!! First post!!
I know! Finally – action! I’ll be toasting champagne tonight!
Our family is wishing yours the best! We are sad to see you leave but I believe moves make you stronger and are good! The boys are at a perfect age for the move. Good luck!
Thanks so much – I know the boys will miss Theo so much. Cam wants a pen pal so we’ll have to set that up.
So HAPPY for you guys!! Change, no matter how good is Always Hard. I wish you guys the best & looking forward to reading your blog
Thanks lady. Philly in the fall??!?! Will not admit to myself how long it’s been since I’ve seen you. Think on it.
Congrats Kaly on this inaugural post! Thank you for keeping me forever posted. I know you will excel at embracing this new chapter in life. What a fun ride it will be! I look forward to reading more about it! Hmmmm….and about the Art History degree?…. I would say it served you well! Bravo for the arts with outstanding analytical, communications and interpersonal skills to boot! Cheers in every way!
Chris! Always my biggest fan! Thanks so much for stopping by – it made me grin to see your name pop up.

Ok, just went back and read all the other sections of your site, wow……you’re awesome, thoughtful and everything you said resonates with me, and no doubt loads of others. Can’t wait for more!
Paige – thank you, thank you. It makes me so incredibly happy that you have that pang of familiarity. Nice to know that we are not alone. I can’t wait to post more, and I’ll make sure to update on FB when something new gets posted.
Looking forward to sharing the move and new life with you.
Love that we are going to be that much closer to the Outerbanks!
SUPER EXCITED to stay informed in this way! You are in my favorites now:) Happy moving and congratulations!
Thanks Michelle! We are super excited too.
Congrats on launching this! I look forward to reading your posts. Also, the fact that the first thing listed as a “like” in your “About Me” post was maps makes me like you even more than I already did!
I can’t believe I’ve never shared my map obsession with the only Geographer that I know. What is wrong with me?!?!? Maybe we’ll see you before the beach!!!!
