Excited to share some moving related news with you this week:
The Moving Mom
When The Moving Mom, a web site about moving with your family, approached me and asked for a copy of Good Move, I stalled a few days before dropping it in the mail. I was nervous that Good Move wouldn’t be useful to these moving veterans and that they would review it harshly or even worse decide it wasn’t worth featuring on their site.
These ladies have moved a lot more than I have and have pulled their collective expertise to form a new web site that deals with all things related to moving. It is a gem of a resource.
But they liked it! And followed up with some questions about why I wrote the book and our family’s moving experiences. The post went live this week, and I hope you’ll go over and check it out. There’s also a special offer in there if you like discounts…
Moving With Kids
I’ve also added a page to my web site with some moving with kids tips including my list of favorite moving resources. You can also find these tips on the Good Move Pinterest Board.
And finally, a recap from my family’s recent move:
If you’re subscriber to my blog, maybe you were able to follow along with our move through my email series Let’s Get Real
(If you missed it, don’t worry. I’m incorporating the emails into an ebook available later this fall. Stay tuned.)
Here are a few things that I was reminded of when we moved to our new home this summer:
The physical part of moving is hard. No matter how short or long a move is, you still have to pack up (and then unpack) all your crap.
The mental part of moving is harder. No matter how well planned or welcome a move is, you still have moments of panic and doubt.
Transition, just like in childbirth, is no picnic. No matter how grounded in your decisions you are, you still feel untethered and a little out of control.
You can’t control everything. No matter how organized and prepared you are, you still have moments that go in an unplanned direction.
Your kids can be helpful. No matter how crazy things get, your kids can make you laugh until you pee yourself.
Things eventually settle. No matter how dismantled you are or your house is, it doesn’t last forever.
All the boxes are unpacked and now were in the phase of making this house feel like our home. It’s a good place to be.
Good Move, my book about relocating with kids, is available at major booksellers.
When Kaly doesn’t have her nose in a book, she wrangles and referees two elementary age boys and blogs about her humorous efforts to lead a mindful, connected life. She’s the author of Good Move: Strategy and Advice for Your Family’s Relocation a book about the craziness of moving with kids. Her writing has been featured on sites such as Mamalode, The Mid, In The Powder Room, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, and Scary Mommy to name a few. You can find her on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter.
