Sometimes the stars just align.
Your husband has a work trip in New Orleans, your in-laws are coming into town and can help take care of your kids, the airfare to New Orleans is reasonable and you don’t have much else going on so you think, why not?
Why not tag along?
So today, I’m writing in New Orleans. It could be a hotel room in any city, but here are a few things that are making this little New Orleans getaway special.
The octopus carpaccio at Domenica’s. Want to eat it every day.
A King sized bed. A room with a balcony. No complaints here.
The dark chocolate banana smoothie at Smoothie King. An unexpected gem.
Tracking down a coffee place with almond milk – Spitfire Coffee.
No humidity.
The Buff Beauty Bar’s mini manicure.
Floor to ceiling windows and shudders. The doors. The grates. The paint. All of it.
The Garden District at night. Gaslights glowing, porches welcoming.
Being told I look like Joey Lawrence Adams and/or cyborg from Star Trek. I’ll take it.
The service at Commander’s Palace. Truly amazing.
The chandeliers and jewelery shining in the windows on Royal Street.
Another round of editing on my book completed.
The sidewalks being rinsed off in the morning.
I like a good fresh start to a day.
The tag along trip is a fine balance. We both need to work, but want to spend time together. And because we are both free from the responsibilities of kids and running a household for a few days, it’s a nice change of pace to have more fluidity and freedom in our days.
Today’s mission: have a Sazarec. Maybe for lunch.
Sounds wonderful. New Orleans can be amazing. I need to take advantage of its closeness more!
It would be a nice little getaway – the architecture alone is worth the trip.
